and help for senior citizens and
disabled persons, as well as
schedule with Buchanan County School
Board a calendar date for all
Kiwanis activities that involve our
local schools (e.g. ”Special Field
Day”, “Government Day”, etc.
Popular current project is taking
the lead on “Special Field Day”
(set for April 30, 2009) for special
needs students in our community,
“Relay for Life”, “Earth Day”
and giving honor on “Mother’s Day”
and “Fathers Day” in our
local churches, as well as giving
out organizing and choosing high
school college scholarship
recipients.

of Finance and Fund-raising
is responsible for preparing and
submitting an annual budget on
projected income and expenses for
submission to the board of
directors, as well as making any
recommendations they feel pertinent
towards possible fund raisers (e.g.
“Golf Tournament”). Also responsible
for securing funds necessary to meet
budget requirements, as well as
setting aside money for scholarships
and funds for members registering
and attending district meetings.
Work in conjunction with Committee
of Youth Services on the “Duck
Race, Kiwanis’ two 5K runs,
“Christmas Tree Fund Raiser”,
and any other fund raising
activities approved by the club
(e.g. “Relay for Life”).

Values

support and encourage spiritual
development, provide human
companionship and comfort, or offer

Projects encourage interfaith and
interdenominational religious
activities. Popular projects include
the annual “National Day of
Prayer”, “Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt”,
visiting nursing and children’s
homes, “Thanksgiving Meals”,
“Operation Christmas Child”,
“Kiwanis Christmas Banquet” and
possibly beginning a layperson and
minister of the year honor.

Committee on Membership Growth and
Education
should strive to continually seek
new inductees into our local club
provided through the clubs by-laws.
The committee should make ongoing
recommendations for membership
consideration and then follow-up
with appropriate orientation of all
accepted new members. Committee
members should work hard to insure
regular attendance by all members
keeping each actively involved in
club activities, giving support,
paying dues, and attending regular
meetings, as well as sending
follow-up notes (emails) to all
members that were absent from
previous meeting. Popular project
includes an annual membership
drive and “Be Ready to Tell the
Story (Kiwanis)” program.

is responsible for making certain
that the public receives, through
the media and others means, the
objectives, the goals, any programs
and achievements of both Kiwanis
International and Grundy Kiwanis.
Pictures should be taken at all
Kiwanis activities followed by a
write-up and picture in our local
newspapers, including all new
members of Kiwanis. Popular
projects include “Kiwanis Corner”
in the Virginia Mountaineer,
photos of activities in the
“Virginia Mountaineer” and
the regular monthly Kiwanis
newsletter, as well as working
in conjunction with “Coalfields
Folklife Festival”.

should maintain and over-see out
local Kiwanis Park; its’
maintenance, safety, insurance, and
up keep by making routine
inspections. Making any
recommendations that would enhance
the park’s ecstatic enjoyment for
all that attend. Popular projects
include the remodeling and
purchasing of additional new park
playground equipment. Currently,
keeping the club updated on the
construction of the widening of Rt.
460 and its’ impact on our park.
Assume the major role in managing
any financial responsibilities
pertaining to the park.

(K-Family and Key Club)
shall devise ways and means to
establish and support our local
K-Kids in the elementary schools,
Builders Club in the junior high,

well as Circle K Clubs at our local
colleges and universities. Should
oversee and be responsible in
finding faculty advisors for each
club. Keeping the club informed of
each clubs activities and service
projections should be done on a
regular basis. Popular projects
include Key Club at Grundy Senior
High and “Special Field Day” for
county special needs children
(Working in conjunction with the
Committee on Community Services)
“Halloween Safety” and
“Christmas in Buchanan County”.
Potential project is honoring a Key
Club member each month for their
individual outstanding participation
and consideration given for starting
an “Action Club”.

Library” and “Read Around the

Projects should address maternal

facing our children in our county
(e.g. child obesity & drug abuse)

should make certain that two
programs are scheduled every month
that are both educational and of
interest to all members. The program
presenter and title of presentation,
should be given to the chairman to

and the president a month prior to
their being presenting to ensure
proper advertising has been done.
The committee must make certain that
the individual presenting the
program has been contacted and any
assistance necessary has been
offered in making certain the
program runs smoothly. Any special
needs, electrical or otherwise, is
the responsibility of the Committee
on Programs. Informing the
presenter of their time limitations
is vital. (30 minutes) A follow-up
letter should be sent to the
presenter thanking him/her in behalf
of our club. A back up program
should be ready to go at a moment
notice if a sudden cancellation
might occur. Popular ongoing
programs include bi-monthly
programs at regularly scheduled club
meeting times and posting these
programs through email format and
monthly newsletters. Committee is
responsible for organizing the
“Installation of New Officers”
program each October and planning a
schedule for “Kiwanis Social
Night”.

attending regular meetings have been
given their Kiwanis badges upon
entering the meeting room and are
wearing their Kiwanis pins or

such. Making certain an American
flag is present at any and all
Kiwanis meetings or programs.
